List of All Roles Valorant You Must Know

Agent Valorant, created by Riot Games, is one of many playable characters in this game. Each agent possesses unique skills and roles, contributing to a diverse roster. Understanding the distinctive traits of each agent is essential for mastering the game.

Roles Valorant You Must Know

In Valorant, the game revolves around four key roles: Duelists, Initiators, Sentinels, and Controllers. These roles determine your primary contributions to the team and significantly impact your overall play style.

While it’s not mandatory to have representation from each role in your team to achieve victory, including at least one agent from each role enhances your chances of winning and simplifies gameplay.

Understanding the various Valorant roles can initially be perplexing, but fear not, as I’m here to lend a hand. Let me break down the distinct classes in Valorant and their specific roles and play styles regarding team dynamics.

1. Sentinel

With just four agents currently listed under it, the Sentinel role in Valorant has been described as defensive experts proficient in area lockdown and flank surveillance, both in attack and defense rounds. Sentinels safeguard specific map areas while detecting and denying enemy flanks.

They excel at anchoring map sites, utilizing their abilities to detect enemy entries, weaken opponents, inflict chip damage, and potentially expose and trap them. The Sentinel roster includes Killjoy, Cypher, Sage, and Chamber, each possessing a signature ability that aids in detection, prevention, enemy slowdown, and chip damage at strategic chokepoints.

However, Chamber’s role in Valorant is somewhat debatable. Despite being commonly used as a duelist in competitive play due to the signature ability’s assistance in engaging good duels with an escape option, Chamber’s ability to effectively anchor and employ traps for enemy detection and slowdown justifies its classification as a Sentinel agent.

2. Duelist

Duelists serve as the primary offensive agents within the game, focusing on inflicting damage upon the enemy team, securing kills, and positioning themselves advantageously.

Duelists frequently act as their team’s primary carry, expected to amass kills and outmaneuver opponents. Due to their self-sufficiency, they often operate as lone wolves. Most Duelists possess abilities like flashes, stuns, or repositioning tools, enhancing their aggressive playstyle.

Effective Dualists understand the importance of seeking assistance when necessary. Maximize your impact by requesting support when clearing corners and surveying areas. Remember, Valorant is ultimately a team-based game.

As a Duelist, your primary responsibility entails creating space for your team. This involves proactive engagement, thorough corner clearing, and securing kills. As the first player to enter a site, you must secure initial eliminations and lead your team safely.

Duelists hold the power to dictate the match’s tempo and flow. They can opt for an aggressive approach, engaging in fights whenever possible to establish a fast-paced and exhilarating rhythm. Alternatively, they can adopt a more methodical playstyle, meticulously inspecting each corner for a slower, calculated approach.

Typically, prime aim, agile movement, and solid game sense contribute to becoming an outstanding Duelist player. A skilled Duelist can effortlessly dominate a game. However, they also understand the importance of balancing aggression with calculated retreats.

Currently, Valorant features six Duelists: Reyna, Jett, Phoenix, Neon, Yoru, and Raze. Continuous aim training is crucial if you aspire to become a Duelist since you’ll frequently be in intense combat.

3. Initiator

Initiators challenge angles by setting up their team to enter the contested ground and push defenders away.

Initiators are those who help initiate site attacks. They aid their teammates by flashing, information gathering, crowd controlling, etc. This allows teammates to create fights and challenge contested angles with an advantage.

For example, Sova allows and aids initiation with his Recon Dart, which reveals enemy locations who could be hiding in site, or with his Owl Drone, which gathers information without the risk of dying.

Initiators help initiate attacks and retakes, but depending on the agent, they will usually be late to enter the site, as most abilities will need them to be farther from the team. Remember, for the best chance at successfully taking a contested angle, use your team’s Initiators, as they allow you to take easier duels with higher chances of winning or more map control.

Current Initiators: Sova, KAY/O, Breach, Skye, Gekko, Fade.

4. Controller

Controllers in Valorant are experts who excel in dividing dangerous territories to ensure their team’s success. Their primary focus lies in controlling specific areas on the map while denying the opposing team’s vision. The Controller category currently consists of five agents: Brimstone, Viper, Omen, Astra, and Harbor.

Brimstone and Viper stand out among the Controllers due to their unique ability to deal damage. However, all Controller agents share a common trait of possessing signature abilities that obstruct vision in various ways.

There has been speculation regarding Harbor’s roles in Valorant. Many believe that Harbor serves as a hybrid between Controllers and Initiators. While Harbor is primarily classified as a Controller, their signature ability allows them to obstruct or control vision on the map, fulfilling the criteria expected of a Controller agent.

You can find out the Valorant Roles: Controllers, Sentinels, Duelists, and Initiators. We hope this information will become one of your references in playing Valorant.
