7 Facts About Scaramouche Genshin Impact
Genshin Impact, an Open World RPG, offers a roster of over 50 playable characters, one of the most popular being Scaramouche. The game is renowned for its stunning graphics, leading many tech reviewers to utilize it as a performance benchmark for various devices.Â
However, we will focus on Scaramouche, a beloved character among players, as we delve into some intriguing facts about him. Discover the fascinating aspects of Scaramouche’s persona in the following discussion!
1. Debut in the “Unreconciled Star” Event
Long before the tale involving the Traveler and Nahida in Sumeru, the Traveler encountered Scaramouche during the “Unreconciled Star” event in Genshin Impact version 1.1. This event granted players a 4-star Fischl character for free and introduced an antagonist named Scaramouche.
Initially, Scaramouche appeared to be a friendly traveler from Inazuma while on an expedition to Mondstadt. However, as the story unfolds, his true nature becomes apparent.
2. Crafted by Ei, the Doll Maker
Upon completing the Archon Quest in Inazuma, players discover Scaramouche is not an ordinary human but a doll created by the skillful artisan, Ei. Originally designed to house Raiden Shogun’s Gnosis, the experiment failed when Scaramouche gained consciousness and displayed emotions deemed too weak by Ei. Rather than disposing of the fallen creation, Ei allowed Scaramouche to live while controlling him and sealing his powers.
Ei constructed the Shakkei Pavilion in Tatarasuna as a haven for Scaramouche, initially without a given name. The “heartless eccentric” mentioned in the game’s descriptions refers to Scaramouche’s early days in the pavilion. Eventually, he joined the Fatui and became the Harbinger known to players.
3. Formerly Known as Kunikuzushi
Before gaining renown as a Fatui Harbinger, Scaramouche was once known as Kunikuzushi, meaning “country destroyer.” After his friend Katsuragi was murdered, Scaramouche sought vengeance, leading to the demise of three legendary swordsmiths in Inazuma.
This name is also referenced in voice lines belonging to Raiden Shogun and Yae Miko. Scaramouche adopted this title before eventually joining the ranks of the Fatui.
4. Previous Appearances in Inazuma
Players might need to remember or notice that Scaramouche had made prior appearances in Inazuma before meeting him again during the Sumeru questline.
During the Archon Quest in Inazuma, players embark on a mission within Fatui’s delusional factory, where a cutscene features Scaramouche expressing his anger toward the Traveler.
5. Involved in a Gnosis Exchange
As mentioned, the Traveler encounters Scaramouche during an Archon Quest in Inazuma. At that time, the Traveler’s life was in jeopardy, prompting Yae Miko to intervene and offer Scaramouche the Raiden Shogun’s Gnosis in exchange.
Scaramouche’s subsequent disappearance raises concern, and in the “Labyrinth Warrior” event, players meet Childe, who is on a quest to locate Scaramouche after he acquires the Raiden Shogun’s Gnosis. Childe’s mission aims to ensure that Scaramouche remains loyal to the Fatui and Tsaritsa.
6. A Changed Persona – Now Known as Wanderer
Currently, Scaramouche has taken on a new identity as Wanderer. This transformation occurred after being defeated by the Traveler and Nahida (Lesser Lord Kusanali) in a significant battle in Sumeru.
While his exact goals following this transformation remain a mystery, he still retains a touch of arrogance, albeit with a more positive aura.
7. Connection to Commedia dell’arte
Interestingly, Scaramouche and the other Fatui Harbingers have a unique connection to Commedia dell’arte, a form of improvisational comedy popular between the 16th and 18th centuries in Europe. This performance style involved professional actors donning masks and portraying various characters.
Scaramouche’s character draws inspiration from a figure with the same name in the Commedia dell’arte, as do La Signora and Tartaglia, Fatui Harbingers. Notably, Scaramouche does not wear a mask, a nod to the Commedia dell’arte actor Tiberio Fiorilli, who was renowned for eschewing masks in his performances. Scaramouche in Genshin Impact is known for his arrogance and intellect as in the theater.
