History of Mondstadt Genshin Impact

The region of Mondstadt draws inspiration from Germany, which is evident in its name, “Mondstadt,” which translates to “city of the month” in German, combining “Mond” for month and “Stadt” for city.

Mondstadt’s reputation as the city of freedom holds historical significance. The current Mondstadt is a different city, initially known as Decarabian City, situated within Stormterror’s Lair. Long ago, during the Archon War, gods battled for territorial control.

Andrius, vying for Decarabian’s territory, unleashed a fierce blizzard. Decarabia created a protective barrier of windstorms to shield their people, isolating the city. Some perceived this act as tyrannical, sealing off access to the outside world.

The Gunnhildr clan embarked on an expedition but struggled to survive the blizzard beyond Decarabian’s confines. The people’s plea for freedom and prosperity was answered by the God of Time, sending the wind spirit Barbatos, known as the Anemo Archon, into the game.

Mondstadt’s foundation emerged from a conflict where Barbatos, Gunnhildr, Amos (Decarabian’s former lover), and the red-haired soldier, believed to be Ragnvindr, battled Decarabia and perished.

However, Mondstadt’s freedom faced challenges due to tyranny from the Mondstadt nobility, notably the Lawrence clan. Fearing his own potential tyranny, Barbatos departed, upsetting the balance of power. Consequently, Barbatos formed the Four Winds to safeguard Mondstadt’s pursuit of genuine freedom.

Relations with Khaenri’ah and Celestia

The city’s name translates to “City of the Moon,” yet the precise link between this name and the moon remains elusive. Considering the moon’s significance in Genshin Impact—like the legends of the Moon Sisters and the artificial moon in Teyvat—Mondstadt is anticipated to hold substantial importance in the game’s main narrative.

Player speculation suggests that Mondstadt might serve as the final region in Genshin Impact. This speculation arises due to Mondstadt’s close ties with Khaenri’ah and Celestia. Khaenri’ah, an area destroyed 500 years ago beyond Celestia’s reach, is believed to have triggered significant transformations in Teyvat.

For instance, Raiden Shogun sealed Inazuma and collected Visions for eternal life following Raiden Makoto’s demise during Khaenri’ah’s destruction.

Morax suffered the loss of fellow Adepts, particularly Guizhong, through sacrifices made during the catastrophe. The Cryo Archon, the Tsaritsa, who gathered the Gnosis Archons, likely seeks resolution for the cataclysm’s aftermath.

It’s rumored that Mondstadt now stands above the ruins of Khaenri’ah. Compelling evidence includes the Spiral Abyss, believed to be a passage to Khaenri’ah in the Mondstadt vicinity. Furthermore, numerous indications and remnants suggest that access to Celestia may be found in Mondstadt, leading to speculation that it might be the Traveler’s ultimate destination.

Territory Expansion

As of the writing of this article, Mondstadt, the town near Cider Lake, still holds many enigmatic aspects yet to be unveiled. In fact, certain parts within Mondstadt remain inaccessible to players.

Speculation suggests that the northern territories of Mondstadt, bordering Snezhnaya, might see a release in the foreseeable future.

Three primary areas are rumored to emerge: Mare Jivari, Sea of Dandelion, and Dornman Port.

Dornman Port, crucial for Mondstadt’s connections, has yet to be revealed. Notably, Mondstadt stands as the sole region in Teyvat without a port.

References to this port have cropped up in dialogues, notably during the Weinlesefest event, voiced by characters like Venti and Eula.

NPC Jones, hailing from Mondstadt, lamented being unable to return due to the Sakoku Decree, sealing off access to Inazuma.

Another area, Mare Jivari, speculated to be Mondstadt’s farthest northern point, remains a legendary challenge for adventurers. It’s depicted as a windless expanse notorious for its difficulty to traverse. Legend holds that Bennett, in his youth, was discovered by an adventurer there before being brought to Mondstadt.

The Sea of Dandelions, or Dandelion Sea, is the most enigmatic of the three upcoming regions. Initially mentioned in a book titled “The Fox in Dandelion Sea,” it’s portrayed as a vast field of dandelions.

Expectations point to the potential release of these areas after Fontaine in the 4.0 update.

Beyond the expansion of these areas, reports indicate the introduction of a new character named Dahlia, a priest in Mondstadt, set to appear in upcoming banners.
